The Zimmer Durom Acetabular Component is part of a metal-on-metal hip replacement system manufactured by Zimmer Holdings, Inc.
In July 2008, Zimmer suspended sales of its Durom cups in the U.S., reportedly because of inadequate instructions as to how the devices should be implanted by surgeons. However, the real issue with Durom appeared to be a faulty design, which resulted in high failure rates.
Despite high failure rates, Zimmer continued to sell the Durom cups until 2010, when it finally removed this component from production.
The Zimmer Durom cups have an unacceptably high rate of loosening from the pelvis. When this happens, the cup can move out of position, causing significant complications and usually requiring surgery to remove and replace the failed components.
If you received a Zimmer Durom cup and were injured as a result, we may be able to help you seek compensation for the resulting losses.
