The FDA recently warned that Mass Destruction, a dietary supplement advertised as a muscle growth product, can lead to serious health effects. Mass Destruction is manufactured by North Carolina-based Blunt Force Nutrition, and it was the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) that alerted the FDA of a serious injury associated with the product. DHSS report notes that a healthy 28-year old male developed “liver failure requiring transplant after several weeks of product use.” The dietary supplement contains synthetic anabolic steroids, which are known for their association with liver injury.

Anabolic steroids have the potential to cause other serious health problems, such as “adverse effects on blood lipid levels; increased risk of heart attack and stroke; masculinization of women; shrinkage of the testicles; breast enlargement; infertility in males; and short stature in children.”

The FDA advises that consumers stop using Mass Destruction immediately. Furthermore, consumers who suspect they are experiencing issues associated with Mass Destruction or other supplements containing anabolic steroids should consult a doctor, “especially if they have… unexplained fatigue, abdominal or back pain, discolored urine, or any other unexplained changes in their health.”
