A recent article in Digital Journal warns of the risk of serious injury from “wires springing from collapsible cloth laundry hampers.” The article cites a July 2013 publication in Pediatrics – the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics – which reports two cases of “eye laceration and retinal complications” in children injured by “collapsible cloth and wire laundry hampers.” Importantly, the authors note that this “represents a significant pattern of eye injury” and that “a nontrivial risk [exists] for all children…” Thus the investigators recommend that parents should be warned about such serious risks associated with collapsible hampers.
