Study Shows Complications Caused by Medical Devices Are Relatively Common in Children Receiving Tertiary Care

A recent study published in the Journal of Hospital Medicine (abstract at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jhm.2058/abstract) shows that complications caused by medical devices are relatively common in children receiving treatment in tertiary care children's hospitals. According to the study, vascular access and nervous system devices are the most prevalent types of devices associated with adverse events in children. The most prominent age group suffering from complications (40% of all cases) is comprised of children under 2 years of age.
